The organic and non-organic come together in the Le cycle de la vie (The Cycle of Life) – an exhibition of the works of multidisciplinary artist Lorraine Dagenais. When she started out, her chosen media were printing and painting but after 40 years of perfecting her metier, her artistic approach has evolved to include assemblage, wall installations, engravings and drawings (on wood or paper).
Taking her cue from nature, she transforms everyday construction materials (such as wood veneer) into flower buds, leaves, petals and clouds. Through her artistry and skill, she ‘reclaims’ nature, restoring it to its rightful place in the world, nourishiing body and soul.
Her wall installations include several series based on flowers and animals, one of which is Les fleurs de Mandragore (The Mandrake Flowers) – an artwork made up of more than 250 harmoniously arranged pastille ‘islands’ that evoke a veritable floral archipelago.
