The mission of the Yvonne L. Bombardier Cultural Centre is to “democratize” the visual arts by making artists (and their fascinating techniques) more accessible to the general public. To that end, every year, the Centre stages between 5-9 exhibitions. The work of the visual artists who are showcased is generally for sale, and visitors have the opportunity to deal with them directly.
The Yvonne L. Bombardier Cultural Centre also highlights the special connection between artist and viewer that typically happens when they meet face to face. In addition to previews for art shows, the Centre organizes Rendez-vous artistiques – “Meet the artist” events – that allow visitors to get up close and personal with the creators of the work.
Another mandate of the Cultural Centre is to familiarize young people with the visual arts. The Centre organizes educational programs designed around current exhibitions, allowing youngsters (several hundred in any given year) to develop a critical eye and to experiment with some of the techniques employed by the artists. The programs follow the guidelines laid out by the ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur.
