By using the human body as the focus of her artistic approach, Violette Dionne depicts the mechanics of a body as it moves, while at the same time, questioning the world of industry. Her artwork is a departure from the way that a sculpture and a machine usually appear to the viewer. The artist combines the two subjects, evoking a link with the working environment. To create a textured look, Dionne applies glazes and oxidized juices, making a piece appear even more realistic – as if it has actually been manufactured for a particular purpose. The effort she puts into creating one of her striking sculptures is, in itself, an example of the world of work. She illustrates that there is very little difference between the mechanics of a body and the mechanics of a machine.
