Island of Wind

January 25 to April 19, 2015

The first recipient of the Yvonne L. Bombardier Scholarship in Advance Studies of the Visual Arts, Sara A. Tremblay holds a master’s degree in Fine Arts from Concordia University.

During the past couple of years, she has had the opportunity to study a number of times in Sweden. It was there (among other places) that she started to focus on circles and spheres – the shapes and metaphors for eternity – that now form an integral part of her work.

In 2013, when staying on the island of Gotland as part of the Brucebo Fine Art Summer Residency Program, the artist started observing and documenting her surroundings – the actions of the wind, the tides, seasonal changes, animals, humans and the geomorphological structure of the landscape itself, creating artefacts that she left on-site.

Island of Wind is a collection of images, videos and objects, inspired by Tremblay’s sojourn. In collating all her observations, she has captured the spirit of the region.
