In her exhibition Transition, the sculptor and designer Pascale Archambault continues to explore the contradictions and dualities of human beings. She expresses her ideas through her sculptures of the aging body, using symbolic themes such as fragility, age spots, wrinkles, physical changes, loneliness, fatigue and illness but at the same time looking at the inner peace that comes with the passage of time and the power of the human spirit – in other words, the beauty of the aging process.
Achambault’s work is disturbing and yet fascinating. Whether it is the figure of the angel in Bonheur d’occasion or the blue marbles in Les dernières billes there are numerous references to the aging process, leaving viewers to make up their own minds about what they all mean. The artist captures the human body in a symbolic way, revealing the mental and physical stressors experienced by so many human beings.
