Les futurs disparus

From January 25 to April 17, 2022

The exhibition Les futurs disparus combines the poetry of Mélanie Noël with the photography of René Bolduc. Themed around loss, death and the past, the work addresses the notion that nothing in itself vanishes entirely, but rather that landscapes, spaces and faces remain, in fleeting snippets recalled from life. We dream of our future, but in turn, that future too will disappear.

An artist who specializes in unusual photographic techniques, including wet collodion (a 19th century print process), Bolduc documents unidentified people and places. (He deliberately wants to keeps them anonymous.) Melanie Noël’s poems correspond to these photographic images with short sentences that interpret the meaning behind the photographs (or maybe not, depending on the viewer’s point of view). The end result of this fascinating collaboration is a dialogue on the universality of the human condition and the shortness of life.
