A finalist for the CALQ award – ‘Artist of the year in the Eastern Townships’ – Josianne Bolduc transposes, borrows and recycles various ideas in her work. The projet Caméo (2021), an interactive installation originally situated in an urban setting in the window of an unoccupied space, is typical of her approach. Equipped with motion detectors and real-time photographic software, the installation records people as they wander by or stop in front of the window and projects these random images onto a screen. As part of the exhibition Ensemble, the installation illustrates how public art spaces devoted to art are places for people to gather and socialize. This temporary project reveals how images of hundreds of people strolling through such a public space create a large, living ‘mural’ that reflects the emotional relationships passersby have with one another and with the space itself.
