Originally from Valcourt, animal artist Andrée Marcoux is currently showing Bestiaire, her third solo exhibition at the Yvonne L. Bombardier Cultural Centre. This new corpus marks a turning point in Marcoux’ artistic journey. In this exhibition, her images are principally rendered in black and white. Working with India ink and charcoal – materials born of the soil – she homes in on the very essence of a wild animal, isolating it from its natural habitat. The exhibition is a meditation on the justification for capturing wild animals or the impact of human civilization on biodiversity – a reflection of the artist’s profound love of the animal world. These realistic-looking animals (some almost life-size) invite the viewer to observe them at close quarters in exquisite detail – all the better to love them, just as it should be!
